What's the difference between unavailability and time off?

Understanding when employees should use unavailability

To guide your employees towards the type of request to use when they'll be absent for a defined period, here's the difference between availability management and a time off request.

Availability requests

If your employee would like to share with you their new school schedule, a period of the day when they'll be unavailable each week (for example, every Monday afternoon), or a short appointment, they can do so through Scheduling > Schedule > Requests > Availability.

Note: Atlas Scheduling assumes that employees are always available by default, but lets you set periods of unavailability for individual employees.

As an administrator, if you don't use the availability feature, you can disable it under Settings > Permission management > Allow availability management.

Time off requests

If an employee wants to send you a request for an absence (like a sick day, an appointment, or vacation), they should submit a time off request instead.

You can view these requests under Time off > Time off requests.
