Why can't I approve my employees' hours?

Troubleshooting timesheet approvals

You want to approve your employees' hours, but the time entries are greyed out. Here's why.

Someone else already approved the time entry

Time entries that require approval are highlighted in purple and carry the Unapproved alert. If the time entry is no longer purple and no longer has the Unapproved alert, someone else likely approved it already.

You can click on the entry, then consult the register to see who approved it.

Manually created time entry (by a leader)

If you manually add a time entry to your employee's timesheet, it will be automatically approved on creation.

The time entry doesn't require approval

Administrators can set parameters for tolerating a certain amount of variance in clocking times compared to the schedule: for example, five minutes late or early. If this parameter is activated in Settings > Attendance and the time entry is within that acceptable variance, it will be approved automatically, so you can't approve it manually.
