Automatic Break Rules

How to have breaks added automatically on shifts

You can predetermine rules that will add breaks automatically on shift that match the criteria.

IMPORTANT: Only an Administrator can set these rules.


  1. From the Schedule page, click More icon in the top-right.

  2. Select Automated break rules from the menu.

  3. From the Automated break rules page, click Create to add a new one.

  4. Select a length for the break, and whether it is Paid or Unpaid.

  5. Set the Rule conditions for your break (See below).

  6. Click the Create button to save this break.


Rule conditions

The rules can be defined around three main criteria:

  • Shift duration: You can trigger the break on shifts with a set duration or with one within a minimum/maximum range.

  • Location: You can target all or certain locations for the rule.

  • Position: You can apply the rule to all or certain positions.


Additional information

  • Breaks created this way are applied to new shifts only - Existing shifts will not be adjusted.

  • During a shift creation, you can remove breaks that have been added automatically.

  • Automatic breaks can be deleted at any time form the same menu page as above.
