What are the differences between time bank balances?

Understanding the current, pending and available balance of your time banks

Written by Charles Vallières

An employee's time bank balance is split into three statuses:

  1. Current balance

  2. Approved

  3. Available

Current

The current balance in the amount currently in their bank. This does not consider any planned time off.

Approved

The number of hours that are scheduled in the future but not yet actually taken and visible in the timesheets.

Available

This equals the current value minus the approved value. That is, it's the number of hours that can still be assigned considering what will be assigned in the future.

Example: An employee was given 80 hours in their vacation time bank and already has 24 hours of time off assigned in the schedule in two weeks. We then obtain this distribution:

Before their time off

  1. Current balance: 80 hours

  2. Pending balance: 24 hours

  3. Available balance: 56 hours

After the time off

  1. Current balance: 56 hours

  2. Pending balance: 0 hours

  3. Available balance: 56 hours
