If you have shift premiums that must be calculated according to predetermined triggers (time, day, position, location, and so on), you can create automatic premiums to automate the process, save a lot of time, and reduce miscalculations.
Important: Automated premiums do not apply retroactively. When you create an automated premium, past shifts and entries aren't affected.
For premiums that should be added manually on certain occasions, refer to this article instead.
Creating shift premiums
Select Settings from the left navigation menu.
Select Premiums from the submenu.
Click Add a premium in the top-right corner of the screen.
Setting up an automatic premium
Choose a name for the premium.
You can also choose to add a multiplier for the premium hours.
Select the premium's type as Automatic.
Refer to this article for setting up a spontaneous premium.
Choose any restrictions for your premium. Here are some examples:
Position: Premium given to assistant manager, team lead, and so on.
Location: The Ottawa location could provide a premium to its employees because it is farther away than the Montreal location.
Employee: Sandra can have a premium automatically added to all their shifts, in accordance with their individual employment contract.
Choose whether the premium can be added to shifts or paid time off. In the vast majority of cases, premiums should be applied to shifts only.
Also confirm whether the premium can be added to regular hours only, overtime hours only, or all hours.
Choose when you want your premium to be active:
During a given time period (all day or between set hours).
Shifts starting before or after a specific time.
Select which days the premium is active, or toggle on All week to select all.
Finally, choose the computing method for how this premium will be applied. Here are some examples:
Apply this premium to the work hours overlapping the premium period only: If you have a time trigger from 4:00 p.m. to 12:00 midnight, and the employee works from 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., then only the hours from 4:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. (seven hours) will receive the premium.
Apply this premium to the entire work shift when it overlaps the premium period: Taking the same example as above, this time, the whole shift (3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.) would be computed, giving eight hours of premium hours.
Apply this premium to a specific number of hours, regardless of the shift's duration: Selecting this option will allow you to preset a quantity. We recommend it to be one to facilitate reporting later on.
